Laminate is inspired by hardwood, it looks like hardwood but it costs considerably less.  Laminate is constructed of four layers of material fused together: a wear layer; a high-resolution photo of the surface it is emulating; a dense core board; and a backing layer. It's affordable, durable, and resistant to stains, and fading; it also won't harbor allergens.

Texture
Laminate is made to look like real wood or tile. To add a realistic wood appearance, the surface can be hand-scraped, distressed, and covered with authentic-looking knots and wormholes. Laminate can look like anything from polished marble to timeworn slate.

Finish                                                                                                Laminate comes prefinished in a glossy or matte coating.

Tough Enough
Laminate is more durable than hardwood and is suited for homes with children and pets. Laminate can withstand water, but not puddles. If water is left standing for hours after the kids' bath or an overlooked spill, it may seep into the seams and cause damage.

DIY
Laminate is a great Do It Yourself flooring option. Laminate is easy to work with and can be walked on the same day it is installed. An entire room can usually be finished in a day or two.

Hypoallergenic
Laminate flooring is free of the nooks and crannies that hold on to outdoor pollen, dust, dander and pet hair allowing them to trap less allergens. Laminate floors are recommended by the American Lung Association to improve air quality.

Underlayment.
Laminate requires a base layer underneath it to muffle sound and protect as a moisture barrier.

How to Clean
Sweep or vacuum regularly keep to free of dirt and sand which can scratch the surface over time. Do not Wet mop. Watch for any spaces or separation where water could penetrate.
